A review of available kitplane designs, by Gerald McKibben
(Currently [April 26, 2011] compiling an indexed listing of available kitplanes to make it easy to examine what’s available in various categories)
See list at bottom of this message. This is a new section (still very incomplete except for the Hummel Bird as of April 1, 2011) where I plan to feature different kitplanes in separate articles. This will allow more information on each model than is usually included in kitplane directories. Look for new additions to be added on a regular basis.
Definitions: A “kitplane” will be loosely defined, because so many suppliers of airplane plans, in addition to complete kits, also offer “partial kits” in varying degrees of completeness. Here it must be mentioned that so-called “complete kits” are usually complete only so far as the airframe goes. Engine, instruments, and airframe are not usually included, as in the RV-6A kit I built.
The kitplane section will include the full spectrum of available aircraft from untralights to high performance Experimental class aircraft. In some cases I’ll add builder and/or pilot comments (my own if it’s an RV) to add interest and as additional info.
